Consumer Reports Ranks Programmable Thermostats

The one-two punch of investing in an energy-efficient air conditioner and properly using a programmable thermostat can be major boost to saving money on your energy bill. You can always count on On Time Elmer for advice on your AC system, and now Consumer Reports is out with its list of recommended programmable thermostats.

The problem with programmable thermostats is many people don’t take the time to actually use them. So one of the factors Consumer Reports looked at was ease of use. The thermostats that topped CR’s rankings, the Venstar ColorTouch Series T5800 and the Nest, each have interactive displays, full color screens and can be changed using apps on your smart phone, iPad or laptop.
